LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Community members in East Las Vegas now have a new option for their healthcare needs with the opening of the UMC East Charleston Quick Care and Primary Care clinic. The facility celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and a proclamation from Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom. The new clinic replaces the nearby Nellis location, offering more space and an improved clinical environment.  Mason Van Houweling, UMC CEO, said, "We will be able to bring more patients through our system, treat more specialized patients, we're going to bring some specialty care as well, more pediatrics. So again, sticking with our bread and butter, our primary care and our quick care patients and our brand since the 1980s, and it provides an access to a higher level of care back at UMC."

LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — The Clark County Fire Department broke ground today on a new fire station that will significantly cut response times for residents in east Las Vegas. Station 62 will be built on 1.1 acres in Maslow Park, filling what Fire Chief Billy Samuels described as a critical gap in coverage for the area. "There was a hole here where our response times weren't as good as what we would have liked, so with that when we put a station here our response times are going to decrease obviously, which is better service that we're going to provide for the community," Samuels said. The $10.9 million station will house one engine, one truck and one rescue unit, providing round-the-clock coverage for neighbors in the area. Clark County Commission Chairman Tick Segerblom says residents will benefit from the enhanced emergency response capabilities the new station will provide.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Mabuhay Filipino Town! Thursday morning, Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom joined Filipino community leaders to unveil the street sign for Las Vegas’ new Filipino Town – a cultural district years in the making. “It’s been so many years that we’ve been talking about a Filipino center, but now we have a town. A designation of Filipino Town,” said Filipino Town founder Rozita Lee. “We’re so pleased that we have a place where people can come together and we can have our businesses together.” Lee has called Las Vegas home for 45 years, witnessing the Filipino community grow and thrive. She led the effort to create Filipino Town – a vision to highlight Filipino culture and the community’s contributions across the valley. “Some come from the Philippines, but people like me are born here. But we love our heritage, we have a wonderful, beautiful heritage that we want others to see,” said Lee. Filipino Town runs along Maryland Parkway from Desert Inn to Flamingo – home to dozens of Filipino-owned businesses. “Filipino Town is a historic area where the first Filipinos resided,” said Catherine Francisco, Founder and President of AAPI Chamber of Commerce. “We are over 180,000 strong. We are in small businesses, we are entrepreneurs, we are in healthcare, and we are ecstatic to have this designation.” This is only the second Filipino Town in the United States. Segerblom said the new cultural district is both a celebration and promise for the future. “It’s a revitalization, but more importantly, it’s just a recognition of how important the Filipino community is to us here in Las Vegas,” said Segerblom.  Future plans for Filipino Town also include a Filipino-American Museum . The cultural district is a part of the Clark County Redevelopment Agency’s plan to revitalize the area, which includes new apartments and condos and a $300 million bus line connecting the airport to downtown.

Las Vegas (KSNV) — Clark County officials have officially launched a new project that will make Sloan Lane more accessible in east Las Vegas. On Thursday, Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom joined the Department of Public Works for a groundbreaking ceremony to begin the construction of improvements to Sloan Lane. The $13.9 million Clark County project is slated to extend Sloan Lane with a paved road and a bridge over the Las Vegas Wash, connecting Ruby Creek Drive to Vegas Valley Drive. “This bridge is more than infrastructure; it builds connection and access for our community,” said Commissioner Segerblom.  “This bridge and road connection will significantly increase connectivity on the east side of the Valley, connecting residents to schools and businesses.”

LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - Clark County leaders celebrated a milestone Wednesday – marking two years of a shelter that is helping people transition out of homelessness. The Navigation Center in Downtown Las Vegas offers temporary housing for up to 70 adults without children. The 30-day program connects people to vital documents like IDs and social security cards as well as mental health services and job assistance – all aimed at helping people get back on their feet. Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom attended the two-year celebration. Segerblom said in the past two years, the center has already helped over 1,800 residents start fresh. “The number one issue in my district and maybe all around the county is the homeless issue as far as treating people fairly, but also the issues that arise from people being homeless in the neighborhoods and unsanitary conditions and unsafe conditions,” Segerblom said. “So we need to have services like this to help people get off the streets.” With demand growing, staff say they hope to expand – adding more navigation centers across the Las Vegas Valley. “These types of programs assist them because they’re not really going into a regular shelter where it’s a lot of people congregated in one area and they’re not used to that, and it’s a lot easier for them to become independent in an environment like this,” said program director John Fernandez.  Segerblom said the goal is to build more centers like this – with plans already underway for a large “ Campus of Hope ” – a new facility that will offer housing and other services to help people stay off the streets long term.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department has broken ground on its newest neighborhood police station. A ceremony was held on Thursday, March 10 at the site of the Hollywood Area Command, located at the corner of Hollywood and Sahara near Las Vegas High School. The newly established area command provides easier access to police services for residents in the central east side. Located beside Clark County Fire Station 31 and the Hollywood Recreation Center, the new police station will enhance this community hub, officials say. The Hollywood Area Command groundbreaking marks a historic milestone for our east side neighborhoods,” said Commissioner Tick Segerblom, Chair of the Clark County Commission. “This facility has been nearly three decades in the making, addressing a critical need in our community." Construction is slated to be completed in the Spring of 2026.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Clark County Commission chairman Tick Segerblom hosted his third event in his ‘Know Your Rights’ series in collaboration with the ACLU of Nevada and the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas, is designed to provide business owners and employees with valuable information on navigating the current immigration landscape. “Our local business community will gain practical insights into immigration policies and procedures during this crucial time,” Clark County Commission Chairman Tick Segerblom said. The event comes after President Trump's congressional address where he delivered remarks on his immigration policies. Many of them [illegal immigrants] were murderers, human traffickers, gang members, and other criminals from the streets of dangerous cities throughout the world because of Joe Biden’s insane and very dangerous open border policies.  So far, Trump's administration has made nearly 23-thousand arrests and 18-thousand deportations in the past month after drastically reshaping immigration enforcement, encouraging ice raids.

“On Wednesday, February 19th, The Shaquille O'Neal Foundation received approval to move forward with the development of The Shaquille O'Neal Youth Development Complex in Las Vegas. The Clark County Commissioners unanimously endorsed plans for the new facility, which will be located near the intersection of Lamb and Lake Mead. Commission Chairman Tick Segerblom highlighted the strategic location, noting that three elementary schools are directly across from the facility’s location. “This is a perfect location for this facility,” he remarked during the hearing. The complex will cover approximately 34,000 square feet and will feature a gym, a mixed martial arts and boxing center, Pre-K services, and more. The $24 million project will house the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada and an alumni center for Communities In Schools of Nevada. The programming will ensure vital resources for education, leadership, career development, and wellness.”

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – A “Know Your Rights” Town Hall and resource fair will offer up information about immigration rights and help connect the public with tools and services available in Las Vegas. It will take place on Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center at 3130 McLeod Drive near Desert Inn Road. The resource fair will feature local organizations such as the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, the Consulate of Mexico in Las Vegas, the Consulate of El Salvador, and many others. The different organizations onsite will offer guidance, tools, and services to assist the immigrant community. The event, which will be hosted by Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom and the ACLU of Nevada, aims to provide vital information about immigration rights and connect attendees with essential resources. “This townhall is an important opportunity to empower residents by providing them with knowledge about their rights,” Commissioner Tick Segerblom said. “We’re bringing together local resources and experts to support our immigrant communities in Clark County.” The event is open to the public and will also be transmitted online via Facebook Live through Clark County’s English and Spanish social media channels. Spanish interpreters will also be available during the event.
