Clark County officials activate new traffic light near east valley middle school
Las Vegas (KSNV) — A new traffic signal has gone up near one East Valley middle school, ensuring student safety when on their way to school.
On Wednesday morning,Clark County Commissioner Tick Segerblom was joined byJerome Mack Middle School's former principal Dr. Roxanne James, who was an advocate for the signal, to turn the signal on for the first time nearLamb Blvd. and Karen Ave.
According to the county, the intersection sees a daily traffic average of36,000 vehicles. Other road improvements made in the area includemedian island installations, pavement upgrades, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) improvements.
“This project will improve safety for the students who have to cross six lanes of traffic to get to the other side,” said James, who was principal at Mack Middle School for 11 years before retiring last spring. “But it will also improve safety for the drivers. I really think it will help both communities.”
The light will now help students to safely cross six lanes of traffic when getting to and from school as well as improve the flow of traffic for drivers.
